Session Nineteen was founded by guitarist Wes Stevens in early 2008. While writing material for a concept album the music was missing more influence. "Anybody can write good music, but with the right people you're untouchable." Though Wes had provided vocals for previous bands, his concentration was to be devoted solely to guitar for this project so he began his search.
Jessie McCollum was added as bassist and backup vocalist in late 2010. "It only took a few measures of the first song and I thought, 'if I can halfway get along with these guys, this is the band for me'".
During the continued search, the previously written material was developed into new works. "We knew the general sound we needed, but we were more concerned that he captured the emotion of the material and conveyed it so anyone could relate. After several tryouts with a variety of vocalists, we just weren't hearing it". In walked David Anding. David was an accomplished guitarist and wasn't finding the right sound in other bands. "I had been searching for years for the right people that fit the sound I wanted and wasn't finding anything, so I decided to expand to lead vocals". "When we heard David's melody with Three and Scorn, we were sold and offered him the spot immediately". With the added advantage of David's guitars and additional writing talent, Session Nineteen had all of the necessary means to achieve the sound and feel that they searched for. At that time, the search began for a drummer.
New material was flowing effortlessly and with perfect timing found the perfect fit in drummer, Dave Perkins. "Dave came in after a having only a few days to work with the raw material and was able to breathe new life into the sound. We knew the line-up was complete from day one". With the sound set, it formed a style on its own. "I've been in and out of alot of bands. Seems like I looked for forever for the right combination and now I've finally found it".
With the band roster complete, energy was running high and work began to get material together. "The sound got us all anxious to get rolling and on the road. We were all more than ready to get out and play shows." "Case Closed" was the first child of the writing frenzy and portrays the frustration that everyone goes through when they're burned by someone close.
"We write primarily about the things that bother us in our lives, but it's to say we're still kicking and better for having the experience. Your pain is a gift and We drive that message into our songs because life can be a bitter pill, but in the end you just open wide and swallow the truth".
The overall sound is heavy, dark and melodic. "We love energy in our music and stage presence. We feed off of the energy from our fans. For us, it's important that people feel the weight of the words with every beat and chord without getting overly complicated. It's about the music being the best it can be and delivering a message in a way that touches someone. We're not here to conform or rebel, just to be us."
